Alan Shearer's huge net worth, daughters with famous boyfriends and rarely-seen wife

Alan Shearer, the legendary former Newcastle United and England striker, will be leading Amazon Prime Video's commentary team for Arsenal's clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Premier League's all-time leading goalscorer has earned a solid reputation since hanging up his boots, receiving acclaim for his punditry and analysis on BBC's Match of the Day, as well as his seamless transition into the commentary box. Let's take an in-depth look at the life Shearer has built away from the pitch and his family life.

The 54 year old has amassed a considerable personal fortune both during and after his playing career. He was a record transfer when he moved to Newcastle United from Blackburn Rovers for £15m in 1996, having already won the league with his previous club and made a name for himself at Southampton.

His media work with the BBC, Al-Jazeera and now Amazon - not to mention his podcast, The Rest is Football with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards - has kept him in the public eye as one of football's most recognisable faces. His BBC salary alone brings in a reported £380,000.

However, Shearer's BBC earnings have taken a hit this year, with the pundit seeing a reduction of £65,000 from his 2022/23 earnings of £445,000, reports Wales Online.

Shearer, with an estimated net worth of around £40m according to Goal, is unlikely to be losing sleep over his wife's dislike for the limelight. The former footballer is married to Lainya, his long-term partner whom he met during his time at Southampton.

The couple, who lived with her parents on the south coast during his second year at the club, tied the knot in 1991. They have three children together.

Shearer has previously shared a story about his wife's reaction when he secured a transfer from Southampton to Blackburn in 1992. At the time, Lainya was pregnant with their eldest child, Chloe.

On an episode of The Rest of Football, Shearer recalled: "When she was eight months pregnant and looked at me in the car and said, 'What the f*** have you done? '" Shearer has also mentioned that Lainya prefers to stay out of the media spotlight often focused on him. However, she was recently brought up by Ruud Gullit during an interview, highlighting the strained relationship between Gullit and Shearer during the latter's time at Newcastle.

Ruud Gullit's decision to bench Alan Shearer for the derby loss against Sunderland at St James' Park in August 1999 led to his resignation just three days later. Shearer himself conceded that had Newcastle triumphed over their rivals, he might have been the one to exit the club.

Despite a rocky relationship culminating during Gullit's final days as manager, which included leading the team to an FA Cup final in his inaugural season, the two eventually found common ground in punditry. They even shared a light-hearted moment at a party during the 2014 World Cup while working for ITV, prompting an unexpected reaction from Shearer's wife.

Gullit recounted to The Sun: "The funny thing is that during the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, we were working together for ITV. We ended up at a party and we were just laughing together and drinking."

He added, "Alan's wife came over and said, 'I cannot believe it... in our house, you were the No 1 guy we hated and now you two are laughing and joking with each other'. We'd met a lot of times in TV studios but that night we really got on so well. Sometimes you cannot agree but you can still respect one another."

Shearer's children have also made names for themselves, particularly on social media. His son Will boasts 16,000 followers, while his daughters Chloe and Hollie have 18,000 and a staggering 81,000 followers respectively.

Hollie, in particular, has gained popularity through her music and TikTok presence, where she entertains 335,000 followers with her content.

Chloe, who is making her name in talent management with recent work on Soccer Aid, is one of Shearer's two daughters, and both seem to have a penchant for sportsmen. Hollie has found love with England rugby player Joe Marchant, 28, of Stade Francais fame.

And it appears the romance has swayed Shearer, known for his football legend status, to appreciate rugby more as he admits his daughter now shows greater interest in the sport over football. When quizzed about his daughter's relationship, he humorously remarked: "I'm just glad it's not a footballer."

Chloe, on the other hand, is in a relationship with former scrum-half Micky Young. The 35 year old dedicated much of his career to Newcastle Falcons across two stretches before transitioning to Gloucester last year.

With Young being honoured with a testimonial by the Falcons, an exciting event featuring a football dinner with Alan Shearer himself is on the calendar.
