Channel 5 star signs up for Celebrity Big Brother amid incurable cancer diagnosis

A star has signed up for the upcoming series of ITV's Celebrity , which is premiering on April 7, over a year after their cancer diagnosis. In February 2024, the TV star announced their breast cancer had returned after previously being diagnosed and recovering from the illness in 2008.

The star joining CBB is none other than iconic presenter . According to , she is said to be excited about joining the social experiment. Trisha was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer – also known as metastatic or stage 4 breast cancer – for which there is treatment, but no cure. The star discovered the diagnosis 19 months before publicly announcing but only just shared their health news in February 2024.

Trisha is best known for hosting her self-titled talk show on between 1998 and 2005 before it was moved to Channel 5 for a couple of years. The have reached out to ITV for comment.

A spokesperson for said: "Any names suggested for Celebrity Big Brother are purely speculation."

publicly and said she only wanted to share the news that it had returned as she felt pressure from keeping the diagnosis to herself.

However, she said she did not want to be seen as 'frail' by fans or those around her. Opening up to the TV icon said she was tired of hiding her health issues from those she had not confided in, and explained: "I can't lie, I can't keep making up stories. It gets to a stage, after a year and a half, when keeping a secret becomes more of a burden than anything else."

Sharing her concerns about her diagnosis, she continued: "My worry is that people will start seeing me as a frail little thing, and that if [the news] got out, I'd be judged, or people would change the way they are with me, or that I wouldn't work.

"I'm a journalist; I don't want to be 'the story'. I don't want to be interviewing someone and for them to say to me: 'I'm so sorry.'"

She took to her page to share the news of her diagnosis at the time, sharing snaps from her interview and wrote to her fans: "Doing this is tough. .. I’ve been keeping a difficult secret for 19 months now, but like my new hairstyle – I can’t hide it anymore."

Meanwhile, CBB hosts and recently teased who to expect in the house last week. The duo said that they’d just learned the full line-up, and were more than impressed by the names involved.

AJ and Will got their hands on the cast list early, and hinted that viewers should start getting excited. AJ filmed herself and her colleague as they drove to the CBB stage in order to prep for next week’s kick-off.

The TV star announced: “It’s going to be great, and we’ve just found out who the housemates are. Guys! It’s major.”
