Following a review of the incident, via a pitch-side monitor. Grado, who has shown more red cards than any other official in La Liga this campaign, upgraded the yellow card to a red, sending Mbappe for an early shower.
Carlo Ancelotti, who was serving a touchline ban, as his son and assistant led Real Madrid to victory. Speaking to reporters after the game, Davide was quizzed on the Frenchman's dismissal.
"I didn't speak to him after the game," he said. "He's not a violent guy, . It's a clear red card and he's suffered the consequences.
"I'm sure that , even if it's the wrong way to react. I'm not justifying it, but it may have been because of that."
Fortunately for Los Blancos, Mbappe - who faces a lengthy domestic ban - remains available for selection when they play Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday night. The La Liga suspension will not carry over to the European stage.
When asked whether it'll be easier to win the league or mount a comeback against Arsenal, Davide said: "Both are difficult, but we're going to try. We have the confidence and the quality to do it both in the Champions League and in the league."
Barcelona are currently four points clear of Real Madrid in the race for the La Liga title, and the Gunners have a three-goal lead ahead of the second leg of the quarter-final. Davide added: "We have to earn it.
"It's not enough having the quality that we have, we need some things to go well for us. Everyone is on board with what we're going to try."
The Real Madrid assistant added: "The victory [against Deportivo Alaves] gives us confidence. It was what we were looking for here and we knew it wasn't going to be easy.
"What happened in the game made it even more complicated for us, but the fact that we won gives us confidence for what we want to happen next Wednesday."
Carlo will return to the dugout when Los Blancos take on Arsenal at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night. Davide added: "I enjoyed being in the dugout. I was a little nervous at the start, like every first time, but since then it's been total enjoyment."
