Gary Neville pointed out Virgil van Dijk error minutes before Liverpool star's goal

Liverpool suffered a nightmare start at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon as Bukayo Saka rinsed Andy Robertson before firing Arsenal into an early lead, and Gary Neville .

Thankfully for Arne Slot, the centre-back made up for that error minutes later by nodding in a header from close range to level the scoring.

Saka opened the scoring after just eight minutes after latching onto a long ball from Ben White, before nutmegging Robertson and firing into the roof of the net.

But Neville, speaking on Sky Sports in the UK, thinks Van Dijk has to take the blame for the goal.

Speaking directly after the restart, Neville pointed out: "Liverpool were high. I'd expect Van Dijk to be a little bit more sensing the danger on the cover.

"It was a straight ball, straight run from Saka. I'd expect my centre-back to be there close enough on the shoulder. It's obvious what might come."

Van Dijk made up for the error just ten minutes later, however, as he met a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner to nod past David Raya at short range to level the game.

Liverpool.com says: It might be a bit harsh to blame Van Dijk for the opener. Saka was quite clearly Robertson's man, and let him slide past him and fire Arsenal into the lead.

Ultimately, however, it's tough to assign blame when you're facing arguably England's best forward at full speed.
