Malinowski rose to fame posting on Tiktok as ‘Lieutenant Dan’ a name he reportedly earned after he lost his leg in a car crash when he was 16. “This is not even a minor inconvenience because all that's going to happen is everyone is going to get wet, but I'm going to be fine because I'm in a boat that floats.” Malinowski shared his experience riding out the 120mph storm with his more than 242,900 followers.

After the hurricane a GoFundMe was set up for him raising $44,000 for a new boat and internet streamer Adin Ross also agreed to buy Malinowski a new boat.
