The transformation of 's mentality under Mikel Arteta is highlighted by 's comparison to .

The two former clubs of Oxlade-Chamberlain will clash at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with both being Premier League title contenders. This is a .

During his six-year stint with the Gunners from 2011 to 2017, the highest they finished was second place in the 2015/16 season. Despite finishing above Tottenham on the final day, they were still 10 points behind champions Leicester City.

Even though Oxlade-Chamberlain won three FA Cups and three Community Shields under Arsene Wenger, the Frenchman's last years were marred by inconsistency and failure to perform in crucial matches.

This was a flaw that the ex-England midfielder, now 31, noticed immediately after his transfer to Merseyside. "At Arsenal, we always went into those big games thinking, 'This is going to be really tough'," he confessed to last year.

"That was the biggest difference at Liverpool, where, even in the first season when we were a bit of an unknown entity, there was this unbelievable complete and utter focus where there was nothing else happening but us winning the game.

"I don't know why, but at Liverpool, the big games, we just knew we were going to win. We won FA Cups [at Arsenal], but we probably never achieved what we should have done."

Reflecting on his time at Arsenal, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain once said: "We had unbelievable quality. Football-wise we had everything we needed to do the business. We were just missing... belief? Toughness? Ruthlessness? I don't know. Maybe it was a bit of that."

Yet, for this resurgence to truly echo the success Oxlade-Chamberlain witnessed at Liverpool – which includes lifting the Champions League, Premier League, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup – Arsenal will need to turn their newfound belief into tangible silverware.
