Major update after couple and their dog all found dead at home by horrified daughter

An elderly married couple who were found dead in their home had gunshot wounds, a coroner's court has heard.

Stephen Jeffries and his wife Christine's bodies were found at a house in Morfa Crescent in the Trowbridge area of Cardiff at around 2.50pm on October 5. Along with the bodies of 74-year-old Stephen and 72-year-old Christine, previously said a had been recovered from the home and their was found dead at the address.

As an into their deaths opened today, South Wales Coroner's Court in Pontypridd heard that it was Stephen and Christine's daughter who found their bodies. She let herself into the couple's home after there had been no reply at the door before making the heartbreaking discovery.

A Pontypridd Coroners' Court spokeswoman said: "There was no reply at the door so she let herself into the secure property using her key. Stephen and his wife Christine were located deceased in their bedroom with gunshot wounds. Officers located the gun at the scene."

The inquest, led by Coroner Graeme Hughes, heard details from the post-mortem examinations that recorded their provisional causes of death as both having a gunshot wound to the temple. The coroner said he believed the deaths to be unnatural.

Opening Christine's inquest, he said: "I'm mandated to continue the investigation into the circumstances around Mrs Jeffries' death and conclude that by way of inquest. While those matters are progressing it remains for me to pass on my condolences to Mrs Jeffries' family."

Mr hughes described the situation regarding Mr Jeffries as "similar" and reiterated his condolences to the family. He adjourned the proceedings with the next hearings expected to take place in the new year.

Police confirmed they were not seeking anyone else in connection with the couple's deaths. In a statement released by South Wales Police on October 8, Detective Chief Inspector Lianne Rees said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Christine and Stephen Jeffries at this difficult time.

"Extensive enquiries are continuing as we establish the tragic events which took place on Saturday. I would like to thank the community for their continued support and understanding while we progress the investigation."
