*Warning: Contains major spoilers for Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare*

A radio host who was catfished for almost a decade is the subject of a twisty new documentary that has just dropped on .

Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare follows the true story of Kirat Assi, a 44-year-old radio host who thought she had found lasting love with a man she met on called Bobby Jandu. With the pair running in similar circles within London's Sikh community and a vouched-for mutual connection in common, Kirat had no reason to believe Bobby was not exactly who he said he was.

The pair began chatting on Facebook as friends, with their friendship soon blossoming into romance and even, eventually, an engagement after Bobby proposed while supposedly in witness protection (major side eye).

It all fell apart after some detective work from Kirat revealed the truth about her beau after his repeated promises to visit her in-person all fell through, ultimately discovering their entire relationship was built on a lie.

While Bobby was a real person, the account Kirat interacted with was fake. In a dramatic twist, we soon learn that the person behind the Bobby Facebook account was Kirat's own cousin, Simran Bhogal.

Producers of previous Netflix hit The Tinder Swindler are behind this latest documentary which has been adapted for the screen from the hugely popular podcast of the same name, Sweet Bobby. With so many jaw-dropping twists to choose from, these are the moments from the documentary that had us saying simply 'WTF'.

Kirat told Bobby every time she went to the bathroom

At the peak of their online courtship, Kirat was constantly on video call to Bobby. When Bobby couldn't see her, he got mad, prompting Kirat to start telling him every time she went to the bathroom in case he looked at the screen and saw she wasn't there.

As the documentary explores, the face-timing becomes so all-encompassing Kirat even started doing it while she's on-air at work as a radio host. This causes even more drama between the pair after Bobby accuses Kirat of flirting with a caller on her show.

Kirat accidentally met the real Bobby

In a bizarre twist of fate, Kirat actually bumped into the real-life Bobby in a nightclub once. The encounter came after a few months of chatting to fake Bobby online and years before she finally learned the truth.

When she saw the real Bobby while out on a hen do in Brighton she approached him and tried to strike up a conversation, but he appeared confused. Kirat, then 32, attributed this to him drinking and the club being loud, rather than him actually not knowing her at all. She admitted that she didn't bring up the encounter to the online Bobby until years later. If she had, she could have potentially brought an end to the lies and deceit much sooner.

Kirat would go on to meet the real Bobby in the flesh again after hiring a private investigator to discover his address, thinking it was the same man she had been speaking to online. This decision would ultimately start to unravel the truth that the real Bobby was not the person chatting to Kirat online.

Fake Bobby dated real Bobby's brother

Bobby was one of many fake profiles created by Kirat's cousin, Simran. As the documentary reveals, Simran created around 60 fake profiles creating a network to lend some credibility to the forged accounts. Some of the profiles used the photos and actual names of real people and duplicated their accounts, blurring the lines of reality, while other identities were faked entirely.

Among the fake profiles was one that claimed to be Bobby's brother. It transpires that, as herself, Simran dated Bobby's younger brother JJ and so had essentially created a fake profile of her ex and his family.

Catfishing spanned nearly a decade

The most heart-wrenching part of Sweet Bobby is the revelation that the catfishing spanning nine years. Kirat put her life on hold in the hopes Bobby would show up in the flesh, allowing them to start a family and begin their lives together properly. She shared that she was under pressure from family and friends to marry and have children, something she wanted for herself too.

The excuses for why Bobby couldn't see her became more and more bizarre, including a shock shooting and then the need to go into witness protection. It was during this time that Bobby virtually proposed to Kirat, sparking real hope for their future.

The beginning of the end came when Bobby promised he was on a flight to London after Kirat gave him an ultimatum. He then said he had checked into a hotel but wasn't ready to see Kirat yet. This prompted her to turn up at the hotel, which had no record of Bobby staying.

Frustrated and heartbroken, she discovered his real address via a private investigator and learned that real Bobby had no idea who she was. Kirat called Simran in a panic who was then forced to confess the truth after realising the police were about to be involved by the real Bobby and his family, who were concerned for their own safety.

She says in the documentary: "Will I ever be a mum? You know, at my age now it's a massive question mark. But I've got to be responsible for my future. Simran never will be."
