Most people like a big bowl of pasta now and then.

It's comforting, warming and can be packed with all sorts of flavours. There's little to dislike about the hearty dish. As World Pasta Day takes place on October 25, it's important to celebrate the popular .

But, it turns out, we may have been eating it wrong for years. If you're a fan of spaghetti, you should never use a spoon to eat it, even though many people often chose to twiddle their pasta to avoid a messy-free tea.

Francees, known as @_franceess_00 on , revealed if you want to eat like a real Italian then you need to ditch your spoon. In Italy, using it to guide your spaghetti onto your fork is a big no-no.

Over a clip of herself eating spaghetti, she wrote: "Rule 1. You don't need a spoon. Rule 2. You don't need to cut spaghetti. The knife is not needed. Rule 3. Ground the fork to the bottom of the plate and spin around."

Since Francees shared the video, it gained a lot of attention. And it seems people have a lot of things to say about how they like to eat pasta.

One person said: "Actually, people in some regions do use a spoon as well." Another added: "People use knives?"

A third asked: "Am I the only one who uses a spoon to spin the spaghetti?" Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "I thought everyone did this everywhere."

For those confused, it turns out most Italians don't find it socially acceptable to use a spoon to eat spaghetti. This is because, according to some, it's improper etiquette.

When you use a spoon, it can encourage you to take awkward bites as you can grab too many noodles. This is why locals in Italy could look at you twice if they spot you doing it.

Nonetheless, there are some who think using a spoon and fork is a classy way to eat spaghetti. This is because it helps prevent the sauce from splashing everywhere, and some people use it to add a little cheese to help bind the sauce.
