Skoda Auto India has launched the Skoda Kylaq compact SUV, marking its entry into the competitive sub-compact SUV segment in India. The new model will compete with popular rivals such as the Hyundai Venue , Kia Sonet , Tata Nexon, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. This launch represents Skoda's first foray into the sub-compact SUV segment, and its performance in the Indian market will be closely watched as it faces stiff competition. The Kylaq is expected to attract attention in the sub-compact SUV market, which is dominated by established players. Comparing the prices and variants, the Skoda Kylaq compact SUV is available in four variants: Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige. Prices for the model start at Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), with the full price list to be disclosed later. Bookings for the Kylaq will open on December 2, 2024, and deliveries will begin on January 27, 2025. The Hyundai Venue is available in E, S, S+, S(O), SX and SX(O) variants and the price starts from Rs 7.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Talking about the Sonet, the Sonet is available in HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX+ and X-line variants and the price starts from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Comparing the dimensions next, the Kylaq measures 3,995 mm in length, 1975 mm in width, 1575 mm height and has a 2,566 mm wheelbase with a ground clearance of 189 mm. Although both the Sonet and Venue share the same platform, their dimensions differ. The Venue measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,617 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm. In comparison, the Sonet also measures 3,995 mm in length but is slightly wider at 1,790 mm and shorter in height at 1,610 mm, maintaining the same wheelbase of 2,500 mm. Additionally, the Sonet offers 392 liters of boot space, while the Venue provides 350 liters.

In terms of features, the Kylaq comes packed. It’s offered with an 8.0-inch fully digital cluster, 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car tech, powered both front seats, 2-spoke steering wheel, semi-leatherette seat upholstery, single-pane sunroof, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and a six-speaker Canton sound system. Safety-wise, it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, three-point seatbelts for all occupants, a reverse parking camera with sensors and more.

The Venue gets a dual-tone black and beige interior colour scheme. Features include an 8-inch touchscreen system with in-built navigation, an air purifier, dual USB C-slots, a digital instrument cluster, a wireless phone charger, paddle shifters, four-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, 60 connected car features and over-the-air updates, Alexa and Google Voice Assistant, single pane sunroof and much more. In terms of safety, the Venue gets ADAS, six airbags, ESC, VSM, hill-assist control and much more.

The Sonet features an all-black interior theme with features such as a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, leatherette upholstery, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, cruise control, an air purifier, a Bose audio system, UVO-connected car tech, wireless phone charger and much more. Talking about safety, the Sonet misses out on ADAS, other features include six airbags, ESC, front and rear parking sensors and much more.

Talking about engine and gearbox, the Kylaq is offered with a a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine with 115 hp of power and 178 nm of torque. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed torque converter and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The Sonet and Venue share the same set of engines. Both SUVs get three engine options - an 83 hp 1.2-litre NA Petrol engine, a 120 hp 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a 115 hp 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Gearbox options in the Sonet include a 5-speed manual with the 1.2-litre NA Petrol, iMT or DCT with the 1.0-litre Petrol, a 6-speed manual or a torque converter AT with the 1.5 turbo diesel. Talking about the gearbox options in the Venue, the SUV gets a 5-speed manual with the 1.2-litre NA Petrol, iMT or DCT with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol and only a 6-speed manual with the turbo diesel.
