Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 24 (ANI): Mohammad Zahid alias Sonu, a criminal wanted in connection with the murders of two Railway Protection Force (RPF) constables, was killed in an encounter with a joint team from the Special Task Force (STF) Unit Noida Kotwali Gahmar and GRP Dildarnagar Police in Ghazipur on Monday.
Zahid carried a bounty of Rs. 100000. During the gunfight between the police and Zahid and another supect, Zahid suffered serious injuries and was later declared dead at a district hospital in Ghazipur on Tuesday. The other suspect involved in the incident managed to flee the scene.
During the operation, authorities recovered one illegal .32 caliber pistol, two empty .32 bore cartridges, and a bag containing illegal liquor.
The two railway security constables were killed in the night of August 19-20 in Guwahati Express while they were trying to smuggle illegal liquor. The bodies of the two railway constables were then disposed on the track.
Ghazipur Superintendent of Police Iraj Raja said that Sonu was killed in an encounter with the police after he fired gunshots at the police personnel injuring them.
"One of the main suspects in the case, Mohammad Zahid, was tracked to a location near Dildar Nagar. He was surrounded by a joint team from the Noida STF, GRP, and Ghazipur police, during which he opened fire at two police personnel. In the ensuing gunfight, he sustained serious injuries and was transported to a district hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors. Additionally, several others involved in the illegal liquor trade are currently being addressed by the police," Ghazipur Superintendent of Police Iraj Raja said while speaking to the media. (ANI)
