India put on a spirited show in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, last week to salvage a draw and keep the five-match series against England alive. Rishabh Pant's gutsy half-century in the first innings for India will live long in the memories of the cricket fraternity. However, that is going to be his last contribution on the ongoing tour, as he will miss the last Test after fracturing his foot.
Pant suffered the injury on Day 1 of the Manchester Test when he tried to reverse sweep Chris Woakes and got his on his right foot. The 27-year-old was batting on 37 at that point. He had to walk off the field. However, the Delhi cricketer came out to bat on the following day and registered a vital half-century.
He couldn't keep wickets, and Dhruv Jurel had to step in. However, Pant arrived at the stadium on crutches on Day 5 of the Test match and was ready to come out to bat if India needed his services. The likes of KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, and Ravindra Jadeja showed great composure and gave Pant some respite as he didn't have to bat through pain.
"Rishabh Pant, who sustained a fracture to his right foot during the fourth Test against England in Manchester, has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test of the series," the BCCI said in a press release.
"The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress and the team wishes him a speedy recovery," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said in the release.
The BCCI also confirmed that Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter N Jagadeesan will replace Pant in the fifth Test, which gets underway on Thursday, July 31.
"The Men's Selection Committee has named Narayan Jagadeesan as replacement for Rishabh Pant for the fifth Test, which begins on July 31, 2025, at Kenningtan Oval in London.
India's updated squad for the fifth Test: Shubman Gill (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh, N Jagadeesan (WK).
