Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah provided an early breakthrough in the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds, on June 21. After India posted an imposing total of 471 in their first innings, Bumrah wasted no time in making an impact with the ball.
The right-arm pacer opened the bowling, and bowled to Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett in the first over. Crawley managed to edge the fourth delivery of the opening over for a boundary, but Bumrah had the final say. On the sixth ball of the over, Bumrah bowled a good length delivery angling into middle and leg.
The ball hit the deck and zipped off the surface, brushing the outside edge of Crawley’s bat, then deflecting off his back thigh before flying to Karun Nair at first slip. He made no mistake and took a clean catch sending Crawley back for just four runs off six deliveries.

Earlier, India dominated Day 1 with stellar batting performances. Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill both notched up centuries, while Rishabh Pant contributed with a crucial half-century. Jaiswal scored a composed 101 off 159 balls before being bowled by England captain Ben Stokes immediately after reaching the milestone.
Gill, leading the red-ball side for the first time, played a captain’s knock, scoring a brilliant 147 off 227 deliveries. Pant continued the momentum on Day 2, reaching his century with a six off Shoaib Bashir and finishing with a fluent 134 from 178 balls.
However, India's dominance fell like a house of cards in the second hour of the morning session of Day 2, as they collapsed losing seven wickets for just 41 runs. England capitalized on the momentum shift, with Stokes and Josh Tongue each picking up four wickets, bringing the hosts well and truly back into the game.
