Amid the ongoing tussle the Centre and West Bengal government on flood-water release from DVC, a division bench of the Calcutta High Court led by Chief Justice on Thursday sought a report from the state government on this initiatives taken by it on compensation and rehabilitation of the flood-affected people in the state.

The division bench of Chief Justice Sivagnanam and Justice Bivas Pattanayak today directed the state government to submit the report in the matter by October 3.

The division bench has asked the state government to report about the situation in the three districts West Midnapore, Hooghly and Howrah, which are the worst affected by the flood.

Following a meeting with various state-run Medical Colleges & Hospitals, Banerjee said, "The whole administration is working for flood management. We have directed BMOH and CMOH to focus on malaria and anti-venom medicines. This year dengue cases are less."

Meanwhile, following the formation of the new-low pressure area in the central-western Bay of Bengal, certain districts in North Bengal namely Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar have started witnessing heavy rainfall since Wednesday night.

"It has been raining very heavily. We are keeping an eye of the situation," the CM said.

State government officials said that the formation of a new low-pressure area have further aggravated the problems, especially at a time when the flood situation in the state had started improving.

On Wednesday, red alerts were issued in three districts, orange alerts in five and yellow alerts in ten districts of the state.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced the decision to sever ties with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and withdraw the state government representation Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulation Committee (DVRRC), holding making DVC responsible for the "man-made" flood-situation in West Bengal because of release of water from their dams without prior intimation to the state government.

However, the central government said that the state government officials were informed. Banerjee had written a letter to PM Narendra Modi about DVC.
