Heavy rain lashed Delhi on Monday morning, causing traffic issues and raising concerns about flight delays. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain to continue across the city until 3 August, with thunderstorms and lightning expected in some areas.
Due to the ongoing rain, Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has warned passengers of possible disruptions. In a statement, airport authorities said teams are working closely with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth journey. Travellers have been advised to take Delhi Metro or other public transport options to avoid traffic jams and reach the airport on time.
The airport also advised passengers to contact their airlines directly for the latest flight updates.
Airlines Sound Alerts
Several airlines have issued weather-related advisories:
IndiGo posted a warning titled “A Rainy Day Reminder”, saying: “With heavy rainfall expected over Delhi, we're seeing a chance of delays and slower traffic to and from the airport. Please check your flight status and allow extra time for travel.”
SpiceJet alerted flyers about possible disruptions in both Delhi and Dharamshala: “Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL) and Dharamshala (DHM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected.”
Air India also cautioned passengers: “Gusty wind and rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi this morning… Allow extra time for your journey.”
IMD Forecast: More Rain Ahead
The IMD’s regional centre in Delhi has predicted generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain, along with chances of thunderstorms and lightning in some parts. While an intense downpour was expected over the next few hours, no colour-coded alert had been issued till the time of reporting.
Authorities have urged residents to stay safe, avoid waterlogged areas, and follow official advisories as more showers are likely over the coming days.
