From PM Modi to Anand Mahindra, Indian personalities react to Ratan Tata's death

As Ratan Tata passed away aged 86 late on Wednesday night, personalities from all walks of life expressed sadness. From PM Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to cricketer Virendra Sehwag and industrialist Anand Mahindra, prominent figures of the nation offered condolences.

"Shri Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness and an unwavering commitment to making our society better," said Modi on social media platform X.


Rajnath Singh said, "Saddened by the passing away of Shri Ratan Tata. He was a Titan of the Indian industry known for his monumental contributions to our economy, trade and industry. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and admirers. May his soul rest in peace"


Industrialist Anand Mahindra said that Tata's guidance and mentorship would be missed at a time when India's economy was on the cusp of taking a leap. "I am unable to accept the absence of Ratan Tata. India’s economy stands on the cusp of a historic leap forward. And Ratan’s life and work have had much to do with our being in this position. Hence, his mentorship and guidance at this point in time would have been invaluable."


West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "Saddened by the demise of Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Sons. The former Chairman of Tata Group had been a foremost leader of Indian industries and a public-spirited philanthropist. His demise will be an irreparable loss for Indian business world and society. My condolences to all his family members and colleagues.


Opposition party C0ngress offered its condolences. "The Congress party is deeply saddened by the passing of Padma Vibhushan Shri Ratan Tata, a titan of Indian industry and a philanthropist who shaped India's corporate landscape. His integrity and compassion will continue to inspire future generations of corporates, entrepreneurs and Indians. Our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and well wishers."


Businessman Gautam Adani said, "India has lost a giant, a visionary who redefined modern India's path. Ratan Tata wasn’t just a business leader - he embodied the spirit of India with integrity, compassion and an unwavering commitment to the greater good. Legends like him never fade away. Om Shanti"


Former cricketer Virendra Sehwag expressed his sadness. "We have lost a true Ratan of Bharat, Shri Ratan Tata ji. His life will be an inspiration for us all and he will continue to live in our hearts. Om Shanti"
