Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday paid tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on the occasion of his birth anniversary, stating that the struggle of the Jana Sangh's founder ended in 2019 when Article 370 was abrogated from the Constitution.
Addressing a public meeting in the national capital, Vaishnaw said, "It is because of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee's ideas and struggles that such great achievements have been possible, achievements crucial for India's unity and for our ideological oneness as a nation."
"The struggle that Mookerjee undertook was finally completed in 2019 when Article 370 was abrogated from the Constitution," the Union Minister said.
On Mookerjee's role as an educationist, the Union Minister stated that he advocated for Indian languages, and the government has incorporated his vision into the New Education Policy (NEP).
Vaishnaw said, "As Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University, Dr Mookerjee gave immense respect to the Indian language. He advocated for Indian languages at a time when British rule was coming to an end, and English was considered to be the most significant language. Today, under Prime Minister Modi, the same vision has been included in the New Education Policy."
Meanwhile, the Railway Minister Vaishnaw urged the Members of Parliament (MPs) to visit railway stations in their constituencies and note the problems so that they can be solved with a collective effort.
"Delhi is the heartbeat of India. We must work together to transform all railway stations in Delhi into world-class, ultra-modern facilities. Whether it's a big station or a small one, we need to work with attention to detail and in close coordination. All of you Members of Parliament should regularly visit railway stations in your constituencies, note any problems, and we will work together to solve them," he said.
He added that PM Modi has increased Delhi's railway budget by ten times, and a master plan is being prepared for Shakur Basti and Azadpur railway stations.
"The Prime Minister has increased the railway budget for Delhi tenfold and personally monitors progress. When the entire team works in unison, we will surely see great results. The Chief Minister had mentioned Shakur Basti and Azadpur in the meeting. A dedicated team was sent there, and now a master plan is being prepared," Vaishnaw said.
Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and other party leaders also paid floral tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his birth anniversary.
