Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is once again in the spotlight, not for his cricketing achievements but due to a long-running legal dispute with his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan. The Calcutta High Court recently ruled that Shami must pay Rs 1.5 lakh per month to Jahan and Rs 2.5 lakh to their daughter Aaira, effective from a back date of seven years. This decision came after Jahan appealed against an earlier district court order that had granted a lower sum—Rs 50,000 for her and Rs 80,000 for their child.
The court, under Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee, stated that the revised sum was a fair and reasonable provision to ensure financial security for both petitioners. The order also noted that Shami could provide additional support for his daughter’s educational or other reasonable needs at his discretion.
Hasin Jahan’s Social Media Outburst
Following the court's ruling, Hasin Jahan took to Instagram with a series of emotional posts directed at Shami. Although her post began with the words “I love you so much jaanu,” it quickly turned into a scathing attack. She accused the cricketer of arrogance and disregard for his responsibilities, claiming he had not voluntarily contacted their daughter in years and had only met her once under court pressure.
Jahan criticized what she described as Shami’s "wrong mindset" and accused him of letting pride and fame blind him. According to her, this attitude has caused irreparable damage to their family life.
Serious Allegations of Harassment
In her most recent post dated July 4, Hasin Jahan escalated her claims by accusing Shami of paying criminals to mentally torment and defame her over the years. She labelled him "characterless" and "mean-minded," alleging that instead of caring for his family, he squandered money on unethical activities. She argued that the funds could have been better used for their daughter’s education and a dignified life for the family.
Jahan, who separated from Shami in 2018 after alleging domestic abuse and infidelity, also condemned the societal support Shami continues to receive. She alleged that he took advantage of societal biases and remained silent while she faced public scrutiny.
Determined to Seek Legal Redress
Despite years of emotional and legal battles, Jahan remains resolute. She declared that she will now rely on the law to claim her and her daughter’s rights, warning that those currently supporting Shami are only enabling his wrongdoings. She maintained that once circumstances turn, those same people would abandon him.
Her concluding message was clear: she will continue her legal fight and believes justice will eventually be on her side.
While embroiled in this personal dispute, Mohammed Shami recently celebrated India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win. However, he was not part of the squad for the ongoing Test series in England due to fitness concerns. Under the leadership of new captain Shubman Gill, India lost the first match of the series and are striving to bounce back in the second Test at Edgbaston.
