Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Friday arrived in Kashmir to review the current situation in wake of a terrorist attack that claimed 26 lives on April 22.
"Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi has reached Srinagar, J&K and is being briefed by the 15 Corps Commander on the security situation and actions being taken by the formations against terrorists inside own territory and Pakistan Army attempts to violate the ceasefire along the LoC," Army officials told news agency ANI.
Officials said Army Commander of the Northern Command, Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, accompanied the Chief of Army Staff during his visit.
The Army Chief is expected to conduct a comprehensive review of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Senior Army commanders will brief him on the current ground realities and the measures implemented in response to Tuesday’s terror attack, officials added.
His visit comes less than 24 hours after Pakistan engaged in small arms firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Army Chief will reportedly visit Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam. LeT-linked terrorists had shot indiscriminately at tourists visiting the scenic hills, killing 25 Indians and one Nepali national.

Officials said Tuesday’s attack had “cross-border linkages,” with Kashmiri police identifying three individuals allegedly involved—two of whom were Pakistani nationals.
Early Friday, authorities in Indian-administered Kashmir demolished the homes of two suspected militants, including one accused in Tuesday’s assault, according to an official.
Separately, the Indian army reported sporadic firing along the Line of Control on Friday, despite a 2021 ceasefire agreement that has been repeatedly breached.
