Anurag Kashyap is currently busy promoting his upcoming film ‘Nishaanchi’. In a chat with Galatta Plus, the veteran filmmaker revealed that he had once offered this movie to the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, but the project did not materialise. “I wanted to make ‘Nishaanchi’ with Sushant, but then he got two very big films—‘ Dil Bechara’ and ‘Drive,’ both with Dharma Productions,” he revealed. When he landed these two major projects, Kashyap’s film was put on the “back burner.”

Kashyap then claimed the ‘Kai Po Che’ star “stopped responding” when he tried to communicate with him, and eventually he decided to move on.

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his residence in Mumbai in 2020.

About Nishaanchi

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, Nisaanchi tells the story of two twin brothers who share the same appearance but follow contrasting principles and ways of living. The film features a powerful ensemble cast, including Aaishvary Thackeray, Monika Panwar, Vedika Pinto, and Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub.

This project is being seen as a creative return for Kashyap to his trademark “desi” style of storytelling, rooted in India’s heartland. At its core, the film explores the fragile yet intense relationship between the twin siblings, played by Aaishvary, whose lives branch out in different directions as they take decisions that shape their destinies.

Aaishvary takes on the role of Babloo, a young man deeply smitten with the spirited and fearless Rinku, brought to life by Vedika Pinto. The narrative takes a dramatic turn with the entrance of Babloo’s identical twin, Dabloo, whose presence complicates the family’s dynamics. Monika Panwar essays the role of their mother, portraying the emotional anchor between the two.

As the story unfolds, Babloo dreams of building his own gang, pulling in eccentric and influential figures such as Kamaal Ajeeb, portrayed by Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Ambika Chacha, played by Kumud Mishra. Their arrival injects more intensity and intrigue into the unfolding drama, amplifying the themes of ambition, loyalty, and rivalry that drive the brothers’ journey.
