Over 200 pieces from Princess Diana's wardrobe to be sold in the 'largest auction ever'

Send Push
Diana, the late Princess of Wales, was one of the most popular British royals, renowned worldwide for her charismatic personality and intellectual activism. She was the first wife of King Charles III and the mother of Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, and Prince William, the Prince of Wales. Fondly called the People's Princess and loved by the world, she died in a tragic car crash in Paris in 1997.

Even 30 years after her death, Diana's personality and character continue to impress generations so much that her belongings are being auctioned in one of the 'largest auctions ever.'

When is the auction being held? image
On June 26th, Julien's Auctions will be presenting the collection titled " Princess Diana 's Style and a Royal Collection" at the Peninsula Beverly Hills at 10:00 AM, Pacific Time. “People have a love affair with the royal family. They have a love affair with Princess Diana, especially. And we thought this is what our audience is looking for,” said Martin Nolan, co-founder and executive director of Julien’s Auctions to Vanity Fair. “They’re looking to own a piece of royal history.”
The bidding for the items will begin on May 20, 2025.

What items will be sold in the auction?
From handbags to couture pieces, over 200 items and clothing that belonged to the princess Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen Mother and other members of the royal family will be auctioned off. While many of these pieces are new items from friends and colleagues, others were originally sold by Princess Diana at her famous 1997 Christie's auction of her 79 most famous gowns. The collection also includes personal items such as notes and cards that the princess herself sent.

Where to see the collection? image
Those interested in gazing upon the belongings of Princess Diana can visit the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle starting May 1. Then, the collection will be moved to the Museum of Style Icons (MOSI) in Newbridge, Ireland, where it will be exhibited from mid-May until mid-June 2025.

Previous auctions of Princess Diana's belongings
While the princess herself was a supporter of auctioning off her belongings, post her death, her followers have been even more interested in owning a piece that was a part of her life. An auction in 2023 saw the sale of a 1985 evening gown by Jacques Azagury worn by the princess that was sold for $1.14M. In 2024, an auction saw the sale of a 1987 Victor Edelstein evening gown for $910,000.
