Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Traffic signals will be installed at 61 more squares of the city, taking the total number of traffic signals to 100 squares.
Their timing will be set scientifically and they will be powered by solar energy or power back-up systems. The meeting of the District Road Committee took this decision on Saturday, also deciding on strict action against illegal parking of passenger buses.

IMC commissioner Shivam Verma, additional police commissioner Manoj Shrivastav, Smart City CEO Divyank Singh, Indore Development Authority (IDA) CEO RP Ahirwar, senior officers of traffic police, public works department (PWD), IMC and other related departments were present. It was informed in the meeting that currently traffic signals were installed at 39 squares of the city. Now this number would be increased to 100.
Collector Singh directed that tenders should be invited soon for the installation of new signals. He also said that new technical signals should be installed by removing old and frequently malfunctioning ones. To ensure the continuous functioning of these signals, alternative power supply arrangements like solar energy or battery backup should also be made.
Signal timing to be decided scientifically
Collector Singh directed that the timing of signals should be fixed on the basis of traffic pressure at every square of the city. The decision was taken for smooth flow of traffic, reduction in accidents and convenience of drivers.
Strict action against repeated violation of rules
The meeting was told that the registrations of 29 vehicles against which cases of traffic rule violations were registered more than 10 times, had been canceled and now action would be taken to seize them. It was also decided that in future, registrations would also be canceled for more than 5 violations.
e-challan system to be strengthened
Collector Singh directed that the system of e-challan collection should be made more effective. Under this, now the challan amount should be collected at the next major square. Initially, the system will be implemented as a pilot project at two to three squares, which will later be expanded across the city. Instructions were also given to ensure strict compliance of the ban, especially in the Rajwada area.
Action against illegal bus stands
It was also decided in the meeting that action should be taken against illegally operated bus stands by running a special campaign in the next 7 days. No bus will be allowed to illegally pick up passengers on the roadside and such vehicles will be shifted to an alternative designated site.
