Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has made a significant pledge ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, promising systemic changes in the recruitment of women into the state police force. Speaking at a press conference at the SP headquarters in Lucknow, Yadav emphasized the need for inclusive and gender-sensitive reforms in policing, a sector where the current BJP government has failed to bring structural improvements.

Yadav asserted that if the SP returns to power, it will institute foundational changes to make police recruitment more accessible and equitable for women. He was joined by Dimple Yadav and several female party leaders and workers, underlining the party’s focus on women’s empowerment.

Taking a strong stand on foreign policy, Akhilesh criticized the BJP government’s indecisiveness over the Iran-Israel conflict. “India must clearly state its position and ensure the safe return of its citizens from conflict zones” he said. Yadav also took aim at the BJP's misuse of public institutions, pointing to recent reports of financial mismanagement where two departments paid separately for a single CM event.

He highlighted growing authoritarianism and misuse of religious sentiments under BJP rule, claiming, “No government has demolished more temples in India than the BJP. In Varanasi, heritage temples have been razed under the guise of development.” Accusing the BJP of eyeing control over temple donations through new policies, Yadav said the party is distorting religious values for political gain. “Cities around the world preserve their cultural lanes only here are we seeing their destruction.”

With sharp critique and clear policy vision, Akhilesh Yadav positioned the SP as a credible and reform oriented alternative to the current regime.
