Samreen Kaur made an impactful entry in the film world with her performance in the sports drama ’83. While it was her first film, the first offer that she received, actually came way before, when she was in school.

Born in 2001, the Gen-Z actress always grew up around Hindi cinema. Hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, the actress shares that cinema was always her primary source of entertainment growing up, but she never thought of becoming an actress herself. It happened by chance.

“Never even in my wildest dreams did I think that I would get into acting or modelling in this industry. I had no such plans. It did interest me since I was a little kid because I was into theatre in school and I found it fascinating how people portray different characters. I even used to be a great cinema enthusiast, so much so that I’d watch every film, every Friday, no matter what. I liked the idea of cinema, but I had no plans of becoming an actor,” she shares.

Actually, Samreen wanted to join her father’s business of delivering school supplies to educational institutions. Even her mother is a government school teacher, thus education runs in her blood. She even went to the reputed Symbiosis College in Pune to pursue her B Com (hons) degree, but life had other plans.

“When I went into college, I got a couple of acting and modelling queries, but I did not take them seriously because I never thought that I would get into it. My plan was to get into business and join my dad. But I was offered a film when I was in 12th grade from a very good director. However, I was just 17 then and my dad didn't allow me to pursue it,” she shares.

The actress reflects on that moment has a turning point in her professional life. “I gave a really nice audition, and I did not know that I had that in me, that I can even face the camera. I was pleasantly surprised with how comfortable I was in front of it even though it was my first time. That's when it hit me that probably this is what I was made for,” she says.

Samreen adds, “I started getting more audition queries and I tried to balance my college education and acting work. I used to travel from Pune To Mumbai for auditions, without telling my parents for the first few months. When I started getting work, they started seeing me on TV and realised that this is what makes me actually happy. So, my dad did not have a problem with it, and he absolutely started supporting me. I started with modelling, and did a lot of ramp walks, still shoots, photo shoots, and then I started getting TVCs. Eventually music videos happened and then ’83. It’s been a wild ride and acting now is something I want to die doing. It's something that makes me happy.”
