Australian Channel Nine TV star and Triple M presenter Ben Dobbin has been hospitalised with a broken neck and spinal injuries after he suffered a horrific bike accident.
The 48-year-old Rush Hour co-host was training for the Noosa Triathlon when the accident occurred, reported the Courier Mail. It has been reported that he 'might never walk again' after the horror smash.
Ben spoke to the publication from his hospital bed in Brisbane's Wesley Hospital and said the accident happened while he was training for a triathlon. He said that he was cycling with coach Cam Hughes when he swerved to avoid a black snake that was in the road.
Ben have a CT scan and an MRI and then revealed he had a fractured C5 vertebrae which required surgery on Thursday night. Doctors warned him after the delicate operation that he 'might never walk again' and because the surgery was through his throat, there is a chance that he might lose his voice as well.
Speaking about the moment that he crashed, Ben said: "My front tyre clipped his [Cam's] back tyre and I lost control, shot across [the road], got spat out and went head first into the one and only steel pole."
Ben said that he told the doctor, "that's my career," but the TV star was told: "my priority is to save you from being in a wheelchair for the rest of your life". Ben said that the was told that most people who suffer this injury have not walked again but he had a glimmer of hope on Friday when he took his first steps post-surgery but admitted that he had "a long road to recovery".
