Country music star breaks silence after mum brutally killed in home invasion

Country music star Spencer Hatcher has spoken out after his mother was killed during a terrifying home invasion. The singer bravely shared a video to hisInstagram where he called his mum, Holly Hatcher, his “biggest fan,” as he thanks his fans for their “love and support” after the heartbreaking ordeal.

Spencer, 28, described the period since August 3 when his mum was killed as the “worst time of our lives,” in the video upload on September 9. He said, “My mum was my biggest fan and my biggest supporter in everything that I did.

“She loved the music. She loved the shows and after a lot of thought and prayer and speaking to my label about continuing on, you know, I’ve made the decision that I 100% want to continue making music and bringing smiles to people’s faces and being out on stage and everything.”

Holly, 62, died after she and her husband, Michael, were attacked when a stranger broke into their home in Harrisonburg, Virginia, just before midnight on August 3. Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Michael, 65, was also wounded in the attack but he had managed to retrieve his handgun from his car and shot and killed the intruder, who was identified as 41-year-old Kevin Moses Walker.

Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson said the attack was “highly unusual and apparently completely random” and that Walker had no known history of “violent behaviour of any kind.”

Walker had bought a sleeping bag and a knife from Walmart two days prior to the attack. He then rented a campsite at Endless Caverns in New Market, Virginia, 20 miles north of the Hatcher's home.

Felony warrants were subsequently issued for Walker the next day when law enforcement discovered that Endless Caverns had been broken into, and Virginia State Police found his car abandoned. Police. officers could not find Walker until Michael called for help following the home invasion.

Upon arriving at the scene officers found Walker dead on the driveway after Michael had shot him in self-defense. Holly was then found dead inside the property with stab wounds.

Spencer expressed that the loss of his mum - who had worked as a teacher in Virginia for almost 20 years - had influenced his decision to continue with his tour. He said, “But I’m doing it a lot because I know that that’s what my mom would want me to do.

"You know, she’d want me to keep on and I know how much she loved it and I know how much y’all love it so I’m not going to quit. I’m going to keep on going as hard as I possibly can, as I always have and I want you to come along on this journey with me as I get back into it.”

He added, “Before all of this happened, we had a pretty big schedule, we were going to go out on a radio tour and we had shows lined up and lots of exciting things that we’re going to resume.

"We’re going to go back to the schedule that we had, gotta go out to these radio stations, we’re going to keep going out and playing shows.”
