Gavin & Stacey star Larry Lamb is campaigning for a spin-off movie of the classic sitcom. Fans were deligthed by the release of the last ever episode of the BBC series last - but they have been clamouring for more in the months since it aired.
first aired on the in 2007 and ran for just 22 episodes by the time the finale aired on Christmas Day 2025. The series was created by Ruth Jones and James Corden and starred Mathew Horne and Joanna Page in the titular roles of Gavin Shipman and Stacey West.

He is so confident that a movie version of the show would be a success that he pitched the idea to BBC boss Tim Davie - and even thinks the Director-general agrees with him. He opened up about an encounter with Tim to the recounting: "I don’t know why you don’t take the show, reorganise all the contracts and put it in the cinema. You’d have 35 million people going to see it. You’d make all the money over again."
He added: "Well, he’s the boss of the BBC. You don’t give the game away, do you? From the look on his face it was either: ‘That’s not a bad idea,’ or: ‘I wish these people would stop trying to do my job for me. They can barely do their own.'"
Reflecting on his time on Gavin & Stacey, Larry admitted he wasn't convinced he could connect with his character - but has found that he has been channelling Mick in his real life after playing the TV dad for almost two decades. He said: "In that first audition I’m not sure I totally got who Mick was, but over the years I like to think I’ve become him.
"Isn’t that amazing? James [Corden] and Ruth [Jones] saw him in me, but it took a while for me to find him inside myself. I’ve taken on board his way of dealing with things. I’m able to accept how other people think even if I don’t agree with it. Isn’t that a brilliant gift to get from a role?"
"I wasn’t always easy to be around, but yeah, I got to 60 and started to let all that inner unhappiness go. You really calm down."
Fans of the show will soon be able to learn more secrets about it as Ruth and James have penned a book titled When Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between - which is due for release in October. Penguin, who are publishing the book, have shared a synopsis, reading: "Gavin & Stacey’ is a TV series like no other. Now, for the first time, its creators James Corden and Ruth Jones tell the full extraordinary story of how they turned their little show into a full-on cultural phenomenon.
"As they recount the rejection, obstacles and challenges they faced on the way to giving birth to their beloved comedy creation, James and Ruth also explore the flourishing of their own real-life friendship.
"While their now legendary on-screen characters Nessa and Smithy had a profound awkwardness to negotiate, culminating in that marriage proposal in the 2019 Christmas special, Ruth and James forged a magical relationship of mutual support based also on a deep, shared sense of subversive fun."
It adds: "Here, from their tentative initial pitch to the emotionally overwhelming final day of filming, the duo detail what’s occurred every step of the way, bouncing off each other in inimitable style. Full of revelations and never-before-heard stories, this is a one-of-a-kind book about a show that’s already gone down in history."
When Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between written by James Corden and Ruth Jones is set for release in hardback on 9 October 2025.
