Is Fortnite down? Server downtime schedule for surprise v31.41 update – the last before Chapter 5

Epic Games has plunged Fortnite into some shock downtime in what appears to be the final patch of Chapter 5.

's Chapter 5 Season 4 has been pretty immense, and we'll be sad to see it go - though the return of a classic map in isn't much to sniff at. With so many accrued and the over, players are looking to the future of Fortnite, and it looks as though it's hurtling towards us at breakneck speeds. And it looks like was so set on making these changes happen, that they forgot to tell players about it.

Fortnite's team seemed insistent that would come after the had come to its conclusion, and though many leakers asserted that a new update would come before then, none predicted a Friday morning game blackout. It looks, though, like that's what we're getting, and it could be the final update we get before the arrival of Fortnite Remix Chapter 2. All of this, too, comes before Fortnitemares is even over, with a Marshmello and yet to appear in the game to round out the game's spooky cosmetic additions. It barely seems to matter, though, as change is already here with a shock new update.

At this moment, Fortnite is currently down, with the downtime officially starting at 9am BST / 4am EDT / 1am PDT. The server downtime was revealed

from the Fortnite Status Twitter account, revealing that downtime happen today, giving players just twelve hours' notice. Don't panic though, because we expect downtime to end at roughly 1pm BST / 8am EDT / 6am PDT, judging by recent downtimes rarely taking longer than four hours.

has claimed that the update is, as expected, harbouring the game's next live event - but they also claim that a big update is coming to Fortnite's Reload mode, though the details of the changes are yet to be revealed.

These updates are usually much easier to spot, but this is a pretty shocking update to drop on players at the very last minute. Next week will bring the end of Fortnitemares and Chapter 5 with it as the game rolls into Fortnite Remix Chapter 2, so no wonder Epic Games is panicking about loading all of the necessary files into the game.
