A lorry driver died during a horrific crash on the M6 motorway yesterday in which his HGV overturned, sparking road closures that have continued into today.
Lancashire Police said they are appealing for witnesses after being contacted about a serious collision to the M6 at 11.20am yesterday.
The heavy goods vehicle (HGV) was travelling northbound when it veered into the opposite carriageway, colliding with several other vehicles as it did.
The driver of the HGV was a man in his 50s, who was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, police added. The driver of a Ford Transit, a man in his 40s, and the driver of a Suzuki Swift, a woman also in her 40s, suffered serious injuries and were rushed to hospital. Another three individuals suffered minor injuries in the collision, which involved 10 vehicles in total.

Police said that two of three northbound lanes are now open, with one still closed. The southbound carriageway is completely closed as workers perform surface repairs. People are being advised to check before you travel as diversions are in place.
Supt Hassan Khan, of Lancashire Constabulary’s Operations Dept said: “My thoughts first and foremost are with the loved ones of the driver who sadly died and with all those affected by this tragic incident. Our investigation into what caused this collision is ongoing.
“Work is still ongoing to repair the road so I would urge people to avoid the area if they can or check before you travel. I appreciate the delays are frustrating, but safety work needs to be completed before the road can open again.
“I would ask anyone who witnessed the collision, and who has not yet spoken to police, to get in touch.”
