New Manchester United signing Bryan Mbeumo has set himself a target of bettering his total of 20 Premier League goals last season. Mbeumo, who joined United from Brentford in a deal worth up to £71million, reckons he can take his game to another level following his move to Old Trafford.
United scored just 44 goals in the Premier League last season and versatile forward Mbeumo is confident he can provide the answer to their scoring woes. “As a striker and for myself, I always want to be better than I was yesterday,” said Mbeumo. “I’m very demanding of myself and I always try to do my best. I don’t like to put limits on myself as well.”
Mbeumo can play across the front line, on the left, on the right and through the middle as a striker, and said he will play wherever United boss Ruben Amorim feels he will be most effective. “I think now, in football, you have to be adaptable and to be able to play in a few other positions than what you’d say is your best,” said Mbeumo.
“I think it's really good to gain experience. Obviously I played as a winger mainly at Brentford, but I don’t have one specific position where I feel I can do the best.
“But with Brentford I used to also play as a No.10 in the pocket or even as a No.9. I can play all those positions. Of course it will help me, because I’ve played in many formations before.

“But obviously it's different because it's a new new time now and every season is different. But whatever position the gaffer wants to put me in, I will play there.”
Mbeumo went on to confirm that he had interest from other clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham but after talking to Amorim, his mind was made up. “I spoke to some other managers because I wanted to hear their projects,” said Mbeumo.
“But the Manchester United one was very good for me. United is a big club. It’s a great opportunity and I chose the project. I'm someone who likes a challenge. There is a very good project here and I wanted to be a part of it.

“I always trust my people around me. The transfer window can be long, it can be short. So you have to be patient and just try to keep thinking positively about things.
“I was obviously on my holidays, so I just wanted to think about resting mentally and physically. But I was convinced that it was going to happen. The manager said 'we are people who like winning and we want to be the best team'. It was a very friendly conversation.
“He explained his project to me, what he wanted to do and I really clicked on that. Another part as well is because you want to play on the greatest stages in the world and Old Trafford is one of them. So being able to play there every two weeks is big.”
