Filming for the Devil Wears Prada 2 has sparked concern for the fate of some characters in the much-awaited sequel. It comes after two returning cast members were spotted working on a scene in New York today amid its production.

It was announced back in June that production had begun on the sequel to the Devil Wears Prada (2006) ahead of its release next year. The upcoming film's release is due to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the original, which is based on the novel of the same name, published in 2003.

Alongside some new faces, the main characters from the first film are set to return for the sequel. Their actors have already been seen working on the project in the US in recent weeks following the news that filming was underway.

They include Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway reprising their roles as Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs respectively. They are joined by Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, who are back as Emily Charlton and Nigel Kipling respectively.

Photos released this week show Anne, 42, and Stanley, 64, filming together in Central Park. The co-stars were seen walking arm-in-arm together through the park in New York City today whilst accompanied by crew on location.

Anne was seen wearing a black dress, lengthy coat and heels whilst in character as Andy, who was a personal assistant to fashion magazine editor Miranda in the first film. She accessorised with a matching handbag and sunglasses.

Stanley, whose character, Nigel, was Runway magazine's art director, instead wore a dark suit and matching shoes for the scene alongside lead Anne. The actor was seen holding an umbrella at times whilst filming in the city.

It's been reported that the co-stars were filming for a funeral scene, though this has yet to be confirmed. Fans have since been speculating over the prospect, with some questioning whether Miranda or Emily will be killed off.

Following the filming, one person wrote on X: "Miranda dead?!?" Another said: "Please don't tell me Miranda died." Someone else commented on the platform recently: "I need to know because I am gonna die if it's Miranda's funeral."

Someone else questioned whether the character Emily, who was introduced as Miranda's senior assistant, could have died instead. They wrote: "Oh Emily died?"

Whilst others have questioned if someone else will be killed off instead. It includes fans having suggested that Irv Ravitz (played by Tibor Feldman), who was the chairman of the company behind Runway magazine in the first film, could die in the sequel, with one writing: "It's gotta be Irv."

Details about the plot, including whether there is a funeral, have yet to be announced. Alongside the returning actors, new additions to the cast for the Devil Wears Prada 2 are said to include Kenneth Branagh and Lucy Liu.
