Mumbai: A Brazilian woman was arrested at the Mumbai airport while trying to smuggle capsules filled with cocaine. The woman swallowed 124 capsules filled with cocaine before landing at the Mumbai International Airport, said officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). The woman tried to smuggle cocaine worth Rs 9.73 crore.
The DRI official said the woman is a member of an international drug syndicate and investigation is underway to trace other members. Based on intelligence inputs, the woman who arrived from Sao Paulo on Wednesday was apprehended by officers of the DRI's Mumbai zonal unit. On questioning, the passenger admitted that she had swallowed capsules filled with drugs.
She was then produced before a magistrate and then admitted to JJ Hospital. The woman had ingested 124 capsules containing 973 grams of cocaine worth Rs 9.73 crore. The passenger has been arrested and further investigation is underway to trace other members of the international drug syndicate, officials said.
