BJP's JP Nadda: Congress's Alliance with National Conference Threatens National Unity

Puri: Union Minister and BJP President JP Nadda on Thursday launched a fierce attack on the Congress party, claiming it has transformed into the "spokesperson of urban naxalism," promoting the agenda of disintegrative forces. Speaking at a BJP membership campaign in Khordha district, Odisha, Nadda criticized the Congress-National Conference alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that their push to restore Article 370 would lead to a scenario with "two constitutions in the same country."

"Congress has become the spokesperson of urban naxalism. They are allying with a party advocating for Article 370’s restoration. However, it is the BJP that firmly stated, as early as 1952, there should not be two constitutions in one nation," Nadda declared. He recounted the sacrifices of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and noted the historic abrogation of Article 370 under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, making Jammu and Kashmir a constitutional part of India.

Nadda highlighted the inequalities caused by Article 370, citing how prominent figures like Manmohan Singh and Lal Krishna Advani, who migrated from Pakistan, could hold high political positions while refugees from Pakistan in J&K were denied voting rights. "There were around 200 laws in the Indian constitution that were not applicable in Jammu and Kashmir. SC and Valmiki communities did not receive reservations," he stated, asserting that the BJP's consistent ideology led to significant changes in the region.

Reiterating the importance of membership drives and the party's democratic structure, Nadda contrasted the BJP's active membership initiatives with Congress's lack of engagement. "There are around 5,000 parties in India, but BJP is the only party with a cadre base and mass following. Have you ever seen a membership event by Congress? This speaks volumes about their seriousness," he said.

Nadda underscored the BJP’s democratic principles, stating that leaders emerge based on merit rather than lineage, making it a truly ideological party. He remarked on the historical context of Congress, quoting Mahatma Gandhi's call to disband it post-independence, and criticized the shifting alliances of leftist parties. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the BJP's 2024 membership drive on September 2, renewing his own membership alongside JP Nadda.
