CHENNAI: MHeavy rainfall struck Chennai on Wednesday night, causing widespread waterlogging across many parts of the city. The downpour began after 6 pm and continued late into the night, leading to power outages and severe traffic congestion in several areas.

Officials reported that from 8:30 am yesterday to 5:30 am today, Nungambakkam recorded 7.42 cm of rainfall, while Meenambakkam received 7.12 cm. Nearby districts, including Tiruvallur, Vellore, Cuddalore, and Puducherry, also experienced heavy rain last night.

Rainfall data from weather stations showed Valparai in Coimbatore received 8.0 mm of rain, Thirutt in Tiruvallur district recorded 5.0 mm, Cuddalore recorded 0.2 mm, Vellore recorded 0.4 mm, and Puducherry recorded 0.3 mm. The regional meteorological center forecasted light to moderate rainfall in northern Tamil Nadu until the weekend.

In Telangana, the weather office has predicted rainfall across several districts today. A low-pressure system that was present over the west-central Bay of Bengal has weakened, but its associated cyclonic circulation now lies over south Chhattisgarh and nearby areas.

Due to this system, Telangana is expected to experience light to moderate rain in many areas today and tomorrow, with heavy rainfall likely in some northern and northeastern districts, including Jangaon, Kamareddy, Siddipet, Warangal, Adilabad, Asifabad, Nizamabad, Jagtiyal, and Mancherial.
