New Delhi: It’s been more than a year since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Canada had credible evidence of Indian involvement in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.
India has repeatedly denied those allegations, as diplomatic relations hit an all-time low recently following fresh provocation from Canada.
On Wednesday, Trudeau admitted he hasn’t provided India with real proof over the killing of Nijjar at Canada’s Surrey in British Columbia on June 18, 2023.
Trudeau, who has been testifying before Canada’s foreign interference inquiry, said they had only provided intelligence and no proof before publicly accusing India of eliminating Canadian citizen Nijjar.
Trudeau appeared before the inquiry committee as Canada charged India recently of “promoting criminal activity on its soil.”
Trudeau reiterated his earlier claim before the committee that there is “credible evidence” of Indian agents being involved in Nijjar’s murder. He also named gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who was earlier mentioned by Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for being involved in the murder of Nijjar.
Brigitte Gauvin, Assistant Commissioner of RCMP, said on Monday night that Bishnoi was connected to agents of the Indian government for targeting members of pro-Khalistani movement in Canada.
