French president Emmmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte were welcomed to the UK by Prince William and Princess Kate earlier - and a skilled lip reader picked up a touching exchange.
The president and the first lady, after descending their plane, were seen warmly shaking hands with the future king and queen. Macron shook the William's hand before giving his Kate's hand an air kiss. And Brigitte meanwhile greeted Kate, dazzling in a Christian Dior dress and earrings belonging to Diana, with a customary French double cheek air kiss.
The exchanges were observed by lip reader Jeremy Freeman. He noted Macron saying: "Thank you, thank you very much, thank you... it's good to see you." His wife then had a sweet moment with Kate and reportedly said: "Oh, so good to see you, you look great."
Kate, 43, recently opened up about her cancer battle and said it was "life-changing" for anyone after she first confirmed she had been diagnosed in March of last year.
In January of this year she visited The Royal Marsden hospital in London, where she was treated, and confirmed she was in remission.
After welcoming the French president and his wife, the visitors, who are on a three-day state visit to the UK, were formally greeted by King Charles and Queen Camilla on Datchet Road in Windsor town centre.
A state banquet will be held this evening in St George's Hall with 160 guests and here King Charles is expected to deliver a speech.
He will reportedly speak about the vital relationship between France and the UK in the face of a "multitude of complex threats". A joint plan on small boat crossings is also predicted to be announced.
Charles' toast will also touch on the "shared history and culture between our two peoples". He will also say: "For centuries our citizens have admired each other, amused each other, and imitated each other" and will reveal he remains "in awe of France's extraordinary attributes and achievements."
It was Charles who invited the French president to come to the UK, which is the first state visit here by a European Union head of state since Brexit. And Macron, during his stay, will also sit down with Keir Starmer to tackle issues like migration, defense and investment.
