The little-known movie features the future 007 co-starring with Paul Nicholls, as they lead a group of young British Tommies in the 48 hours before 1916's Battle of the Somme. The bloody affair resulted in an estimated one million casualties and over 300,000 fatalities.
The war film also features Julian Rhind-Tutt, Danny Dyer, James D'Arcy, plus pre-fame and Ben Whishaw. The latter would famously go on to play Q opposite Craig in the last three Bond movies.
According to , The Trench was also Tom Hardy's first big screen role, in which he was an uncredited soldier "carrying a rifle in two back-to-back scenes; just another face in a sea of soldiers". But just five years later, he would co-star in Layer Cake opposite Craig before both shot to international stardom.
