came to an abrupt halt mid-broadcast as Rob Rinder delivered an important update following the horrific Liverpool horror attack. During Friday's visit (May 30) to the studios, the 46-year-old returned to the airwaves alongside Ranvir Singh where they woke up the nation with the biggest stories hitting the headlines.
One of the main stories that has been at the forefront of the news this week has been response following the horror attack in Liverpool's city centre. On Monday (May 21), the city was thrown into chaos when a car ploughed through a crowd of revellers in a sudden and shocking attack that has left dozens of people in hospital - including children. Hundreds of thousands of people were believed to be attending the Liverpool FC victory parade when a car suddenly veered into thick crowds attending the celebration at around 6pm.
Four children were among the people injured and were rushed to hospital that evening before police arrested a 53-year-old man believed to be driving the vehicle at the time of the incident - thought it was not suspected to be terror-related.
Four days on, the individual known as Paul Doyle has recieved seven charges for the incident and will be attending Liverpool Magistrates Court later today to submit his plea to a judge.
Half-way through the morning show, broadcaster Rob interrupted the show to throw the programme over to his news correspondent Nitya Rajan live from Liverpool Magistrates Court to update viewers on the latest developments on the case.
She told viewers: "Last night (May 29), Merseyside Police that they had charged 53-year-old Paul Doyle with seven offences including intent to cause grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving.
"Now, as you say, we're expecting him to appear here at the magistrates' court later today. We now know from the details that the police released that Paul Doyle is a father-of-three, he's from West Derby, and a former Royal Marine.
"He was arrested on Monday evening (May 26) after a car plowed into people that were at the parade welcoming Liverpool's football club after there premiere league win.
"79 people were injured in total, the youngest among them being nine-years-old and the oldest being 78-years-old. Police say they are still gathering evidence."
After the dramatic scenes hit the airwaves, fans flooded to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share their concerns about the court appearance online. Many feared that the defendant will receive a short sentence if he is convicted of the devastating crime.
One user penned: "Will probably get 5 years and be out after 40% .... a decent defence lawyer will have a field day with the attack on the car on the streets leading up to it."
Another agreed: "Got a feeling he's going to get off with the most serious charges" as a third fumed: "I want to know why he did this!"
