Gregg Wallace was hospitalised after experiencing severe chest pains, with reports suggesting he was treated for a suspected "heart attack" on Sunday. An article in The Sun claimed that the TV star went to A&E in Ashford, Kent, following two days of painful symptoms.
It was also reported that the former MasterChef host is contemplating "suing the BBC" after losing his TV career. He allegedly told a friend: "The stress of this betrayal brought on my suspected heart attack. It's been hell." Sources say he was informed two days after leaving the hospital that his MasterChef contract had been terminated. However, the BBC clarified that Wallace was "not sacked", as they were never his employer.
It comes as Wallace shared a fiery statement on Tuesday, July 8, following a comprehensive nine-month investigation into allegations of his misconduct ordered by production firm Banijay and conducted by external lawyers Lewis Silkin.
The inquiry examined various claims made against the former MasterChef star, with Wallace claiming he has been "exonerated" of the most severe accusations, including those related to groping.
Wallace posted a statement on Instagram today, claiming: "I have taken the decision to speak out ahead of the publication of the Silkins report-a decision I do not take lightly. But after 21 years of loyal service to the BBC, I cannot sit in silence while my reputation is further damaged to protect others. I have now been cleared by the Silkins report of the most serious and sensational accusations made against me.
"The most damaging claims (including allegations from public figures which have not been upheld) were found to be baseless after a full and forensic six-month investigation."
The report is not officially due out until Thursday, and the BBC said in a statement: "Banijay UK instructed the law firm Lewis Silkin to run an investigation into allegations against Gregg Wallace. We are not going to comment until the investigation is complete and the findings are published."
Banijay UK has declined to comment on Wallace's remarks, and the report's outcome remains uncertain at this time.
It has now been claimed that Wallace has employed "rottweiler" lawyer, Dan Morrison, to go up against the BBC, as the former MasterChef host wants to release the full report, which "could jeopardise" senior MasterChef execs and talent."
