ITV Coronation Street fans slam major plot hole as 'missing' Gary Windass is found

Coronation Street fans have been left scratching their heads as Gary Windass (played by Mikey North) finally got in touch with wife Maria (Samia Longchambon) when he emerged from the coma he has been in since being assaulted by Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty) in the latest episode of the ITVsoap on July 11. Lou has been pretending to be his wife as he languished in hospital and had checked himself in under a false identity, telling medics he was his neighbour, Chesney Brown (Sam Aston).

When he came to a bemused Gary called Maria at the salon, and she immediately rushed to his bedside. However, viewers noticed a glaring plot hole. "Hang on. How did Maria find Gary? She would have gone in asking for Gary's room at reception, but he's in the hospital under Chesney? #coronationstreet," one pointed out. "How did Maria find which room Gary was in? Did he tell her? Cos the hospital knows him as Chesney," another pondered.

A third pointed out: "That's going to be A LOT of paperwork to deal with once they find out his name isn't Chesney because they'll have been writing all his obs down under Chesney."

A fourth joked: "I've come to see a patient, Gary Windass. I'm sorry, madam, but we've no one of that name, we've a Chesney? That'll do! #Corrie."

Gary was surprised to discover the hospital staff all thought he was Chesney. Having been told his wife had been there every day, he asked Maria about it when she arrived at the hospital, only to be told she hadn't even known he was there. She had actually reported him missing and been searching for him.

She looked up the number his "wife" had given the hospital and discovered the mystery woman who had been by his bedside was Lou.

Calling the salon, she asked colleague David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) to keep Lou there until she returned.

Fabricating an appointment, David told Lou she would have to hang on as a woman was coming in for a cut and blow-dry.

In reality, Maria was on the way with the police, having finally pieced everything together.

Lou was arrested for assaulting Gary, meaning both of her children's parents are currently behind bars.
