At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix earlier this season, Lewis Hamilton revealed that he had sold his entire car collection, worth over £13million. He did, however, confess that there was one car he was still interested in owning: the Ferrari F40.
"I don't have any cars anymore," he said at the Baku City Circuit. "I don't have any cars, so I got rid of all my cars. I'm more into art nowadays. If I was going to get a car, it would be the [Ferrari] F40. But that's a nice piece of art."
Hamilton has even revealed his dream of designing a Ferrari road car, using the F40 as the base for his design. "One of the things I really want to do is to design a Ferrari," he confessed earlier this year. "I want to do an F44. Baseline of an F40, with the actual stick shift. That's what I'm gonna work on for the next few years."
Now, Hamilton has a unique opportunity. Four-time world champion Alain Prost's very own Ferrari F40 has hit the market with a price tag of £2.75m. The 1990 machine was delivered to the legendary French racer during his first campaign with the Italian constructor, and has since been personally signed.
After a historic career with McLaren that produced three Drivers' Championship titles, Prost moved to Ferrari in 1990. While his two-year stint with the Prancing Horse failed to deliver an F1 crown, Prost did receive an F40 road car for his efforts.
The F40, which has a top speed of 201mph and can accelerate from nought to 60 in just 3.8 seconds, is now going up for sale with RM Sotheby's, who are also responsible for the upcoming auction of McLaren's 2026 F1 challenger at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in early December.

Offering up some history to accompany the listing, an RM Sotheby's spokesperson said: "Replacing Gerhard Berger, he was the first driver signed for the Scuderia following the death of Enzo Ferrari.
"As the incoming lead driver, it was only fitting that Prost was given a Ferrari for use away from the circuit. And what better car for a reigning World Champion than a brand-new F40-the fastest road-going automobile the world had ever seen.
"In addition to the accompanying history file, owner's manual, and replacement service book, the car is also accompanied by a set of tools, its original front spoiler, and one fitted Schedoni suitcase. It is further complemented by its relevant copy of Motor Sport magazine and 2nd-place concours trophy."
