Viewers of were left gobsmacked on Saturday evening when ex- actress Helen Flanagan stumbled over a seemingly simple question.
In the latest episode of the quiz show, contestant Tiago was on a roll, amassing £16,000 before reaching the final jackpot question. Host paused the game to introduce the Money Spinner round, where celebrities could increase Tiago's winnings by £1,000 for each correct answer they provided.
If the stars completed a full circuit of correct responses, Tiago's pot would be boosted by an additional £10,000.Michael explained to the panel: "I can tell you the category of today's money spinner is going to be on the military, all you need to do Tiago is select somebody to start us off."
Boxer Tony Bellew was first up and simply had to name any rank or officer in the British Army. The game progressed smoothly with Tony, Josie Gibson, Anton Du Beke, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Steph McGovern, and Richard Osman all delivering accurate answers, reports .
But when it came to turn, she hesitantly answered: "Army?"
A visibly shocked Michael responded: "Army is not correct. I'm so sorry Helen."
Despite being at a disadvantage as the last celebrity to answer, Helen admitted her confusion, saying: "I didn't know, I'm so sorry. I'm so hot! I got so red, I really didn't know. As soon as you said it, I was just like, 'Wow, no idea'"
Audiences were quick to flock to Twitter to laugh about a contestant's blunder on The Wheel. One tweeter couldn't contain their disbelief, commenting: "Army Ffs Helen."
Someone else wrote: "Question: Name a rank in the Army. Helen: Army?! #TheWheel"
Another viewer commented: "A third person tweeted, chuckling: "Oh Helen, Army isn't an answer haha."
Further tweets emerged as one person added:"Army. Brilliant. #TheWheel."
One person said: "Did Helen say army I was shouting private at the TV."
Someone else posted a bewildered response: "Oh Helen....what was that? ? ? ? That was £6k banked there."
Meanwhile, a different user was astounded by something else entirely, commenting: "Helen Flanagan looks like she did in 2012."
At the climax of the show, it was down to participant Tiago and the assistance of Josie Gibson to tackle the final query for a grand sum of £82,000.
Although Josie expressed uncertainty, Tiago made a stab in the dark and secured the whopping prize.
