Speaking yesterday in London, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said there was "an alarming parallel between the extraordinary increase in the number of reported rapes and the wholly irresponsible immigration and asylum policies pursued by first Labour and then by Conservative governments". Cue faux outrage from the establishment shills, especially after Farage argued "we want the right types of people from different countries coming into Britain, not the wrong types of people".
Seriously though, why is this such a hard concept to grasp? The granting of abode or residency is a privilege, not a right, and the UK should factor in not just the economic merit of those coming in but their ability to integrate and not ghettoise as well. Don't believe those who tell you international unfettered migration is simply a fact of modern life. Not so in the democracies of East Asia or East Central Europe: Czechia, Japan, Korea, Poland or Taiwan.
All desirable and developed places to live, yet all control their borders (and, I might add, Czechia and Poland are also signatories to the European Convention on Human Rights).
The likes of Singapore and the UAE may have migration but these are primarily in the form of guest workers and employees on permits with very specific criteria.
I cannot speak for Abu Dhabi or Dubai but I know in Singapore 'permanent residency' is granted on an extremely selective basis. Unlike in the UK, passports are not given out like confetti.
The model of time-limited work permits should be Britain's now. This would satisfy the needs of the labour market but bring in the right people on specific criteria and on specified timelines. As for illegal immigration, forget about it: the likes of Japan and Singapore would never put up with this foolery!
Lawless streets and open borders are choices made by the Conservative and Labour parties. Nothing whatsoever was inevitable about any of this. The societal collapse seen across Britain and the wider West resulted from deliberate policies. Nothing in this was written in the stars.
Labour and the Tories have taken your taxes and taken the piss. In business we speak about an ROI or return on investment. What ROI have the British really got then from these sky-high taxes?
Are the streets safe? Are the borders secure? Are the ambulances on time? Are the vulnerable protected? Are the trains high speed?
Like it or not, Farage seems to be the only political leader willing to address this while retaining the authority to actually be taken seriously on the issues of border control and crime. Labour wants a wealth tax we are told. But for what?
To leak more money down the drain? We've done that. The UK needs to get serious about its problems yet it seems only one politician is remotely willing to address them.
