Outlander enthusiasts were thrilled with a sneak peek of the eighth and final series at San Diego Comic Con, where the Starz sensation's trailer made its debut. The two-and-a-half-minute preview was a romantic journey through Claire and Jamie Fraser's love story, from their initial encounter to their nuptials and their poignant reunion after two decades.
However, it was the concluding 30 seconds that sparked concern among viewers as Jamie (portrayed by Sam Heughan) disclosed he had Frank Randall's (Tobias Menzies) book in his possession. He confides in Claire: "I've been reading Frank's book," prompting her to inquire about its contents.
Jamie ominously responds: "War is coming to the backcountry and that James Fraser dies in it."
Devotees familiar with Diana Gabaldon's novels are aware that in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, Frank's book, released after his death, alludes to Jamie's demise during the Battle of King's Mountain.
Many fans are clinging to the hope that Frank's prediction is erroneous, but another scene from the teaser suggests Claire might be parting ways with her beloved.
In a particularly harrowing shot, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) is seen with blood-soaked hands. While it could be from tending to wounded soldiers, there's a chance it belongs to Jamie.
Surprisingly, fans have swiftly honed in on this morbid hint, with one Reddit user exclaiming: "FRANK BETTER BE F**KING WRONG."
Another shared their dread: "I don't think I'll make it if they kill Jamie off in the final season."
A concerned fan speculated: "The hands with blood is throwing me. My first guess would be that it's Claire at Kings Mountain, but there's no rings."
However, the majority of fans were left heartbroken at the prospect of waiting until "early 2026" for the final series.
One fan lamented: "I am NOT ready to say goodbye," while another echoed: "I'm already grieving! ! ! ! !".
After the teaser was unveiled, Caitriona Balfe took to Instagram to express her deep gratitude for the show and its impact on her life.
She wrote: "Wow. I never thought we be so lucky to get this far... and now that we have I never thought we would have to say goodbye... what a journey... what a story.
"Thank you to Diana, the fans, our crew, fellow cast and our writers and producers... everyone at Sony and Starz... here is our final poster."
