New Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has reacted to Bryan Mbeumo's imminent transfer to Manchester United after missing out on his old Brentford forward. The Danish coach wanted to take Mbeumo to north London with him after replacing Ange Postecoglou in the hot seat earlier in the summer.
However, the 25-year-old forward snubbed Spurs, Arsenal and Newcastle United in favour of an Old Trafford switch. Six weeks after his preference emerged, the Red Devils have finally agreed a £71million deal with Brentford worth an initial £65m plus £6m in add-ons.
As United laboured in negotiations for Mbeumo, reports surfaced that Frank was spearheading a potential hijack, and that the Cameroon international was intrigued about a reunion.
Ultimately, though, Ruben Amorim secured his priority target after already sealing a £62.5m deal for Wolves' Matheus Cunha at the start of the transfer window.
There are no hard feelings between Frank and Mbeumo over the latter's decision after they shared half a decade together at Brentford.
"Bryan [Mbeumo], of course, is a fantastic player," Frank shared during his unveiling press conference on Friday.

"I have been with him for five years, and I think he deserves the move, wherever he goes. And as a player, I wish him all the best when you are with a player for so long."
Spurs, alternatively, accelerated their interest in West Ham United's Mohammed Kudus and later completed a £55m swoop.
The Lilywhites made a push for Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White shortly after, triggering his £60m release clause.
However, Frank is being made to wait for his next target after Forest blocked the move, claiming Spurs did not ask for permission to open talks with Gibbs-White.

Frank could yet secure an alternative reunion at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium through their interest in Mbeumo's attacking partner, Yoane Wissa.
Spurs have also signed young centre-backs Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai while making Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso's loans permanent.
Mbeumo is expected to complete his United medical this weekend before joining his new team-mates at the start of next week.
He will be on the plane with Amorim, his staff and his players on Tuesday, jetting off to the United States for the club's pre-season tour.
