If you've noticed your wooden floor has lost its initial lustre after years of wear and tear, there's no need to put up with lacklustre timber any longer. One woman has taken to Facebook to share her secret for reviving wood floors using a simple "all-natural" ingredient - black tea.
She touts it as not only an effective cleaner but also an economical option. Annette Griffin posted a snap of her gleaming hardwood floor alongside her advice: "Clean your hardwood floors with tea! Looking for an all-natural way to keep wood floors and furniture shiny, clean and dust-free for longer?"
She continued, "Look no further than your morning cup of tea! Due to its tannin content, brewed tea is perfect for adding extra lustre to your wooden decor on the cheap. As an added bonus, you'll also ditch the cleaning product smell and still get results you'll love."
To use this natural cleaning hack, boil a large pot of water, add two tea bags, and allow them to steep for several minutes.
Once the water cools to room temperature, use it to damp mop your floors as usual, which will "clean and help bring out the richness of the wood".
Flooring experts at Just Wood have also suggested using tea as a cleaning agent for hardwood floors.
They explained: "Black tea works great to clean and polish floors. This is due to the tannic acid in black tea that helps to remove dirt and leave your floors shiny and new."
Their method involves boiling a litre of water and adding three tea bags, allowing it to steep for around 10 minutes. Then, a cleaning pad should be dipped into the solution to start cleaning the floors.
Another alternative they proposed was the use of vinegar. They stated, "White vinegar is one of the most versatile cleaners you can find. Simply add 100 millilitres of white vinegar to 3.5 litres of water, dip a sponge in and wipe across your floors. Make sure you then take a dry cloth and wipe any damp areas."
For those who prefer their floors to smell fresh and want to mask the scent of the vinegar, they recommend adding a few drops of essential oil to the mixture before commencing the cleaning process.
