The WTA season has officially come to an end for another year. It concluded with the WTA Finals, staged in Riyadh for the first time with the Saudis bankrolling a record prize money pot.

Coco Gauff hit headlines when but she wasn't the only one taking home an eye-watering amount.

Erin Routliffe, who went undefeated to win the doubles title with Gabriela Dabrowski, admitted their prize cheque was "life-changing".

The Kiwi-Canadian duo won all three of their round-robin matches - saving a match point in one - to advance as the group winners. After getting through their semi-final, they downed Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend in Saturday's championship match.

Dabrowski and Routliffe didn't just lift the trophy, they also received a staggering prize money cheque of £871k ($1.125m) for ending the week with a 5-0 record.

It's the biggest prize money cheque in doubles, eclipsing the amount teams win at the four Grand Slams. The winners of Wimbledon split £650k while US Open doubles champions bank £581k.

French Open doubles titlists share £490k and just £373k is on offer for Australian Open winners - less than half of the WTA Finals prize. While both Dabrowski and Routliffe have won big before, they admitted their earnings would change their lives.

"We're super grateful for the prize money here. It's like a huge icing on the cake to what's been an amazing week for us," world No. 5 Dabrowski said.

The New Zealander added: "We make good money during the year. I'm not saying we don't but this is kind of a life-changing amount. We're just so grateful."

The WTA Finals is the fourth title Dabrowski and Routliffe have won together and their second this season. Routliffe continued: "We've been through a lot this year.

"And we've always stuck by each other and really committed to each other and supported each other. So I think this is kind of an accumulation of the entire year, and it means a lot."

While Routliffe will now head into the off-season, Dabrowski has one last tournament to play. The 32-year-old is heading to Malaga for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

Canada won the World Cup of women's tennis last year and Dabrowski will be hoping to help her team defend their title.
