The Legacy of Veer SavarkarBorn on May 28, 1883, in Bhagur, Maharashtra, Savarkar was not only a revolutionary freedom fighter but also a poet, writer, political thinker, and staunch advocate for Indian nationalism. He was a prominent member of the Hindutva ideology and founder of the Abhinav Bharat Society, which aimed to uproot British rule through armed resistance.
Savarkar was arrested by British authorities and sentenced to two life terms totaling 50 years in the Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, known for its inhumane conditions and solitary confinement.
