Maintaining a healthy weight consistently is a dream for many, however, some never seem to gain weight no matter what. Be it the festive season or a perfect day for a hot plate of pakoras (fritters), they stay healthy and in shape. But how do they do it? Is there something that they are following that you aren’t? We got in touch with Pooja Shah Bhave (CDE, MSc CND, BSc FSN), Consultant Dietician and Certified Diabetes Educator, Mumbai who shares five-morning habits that people follow daily that help them stay in shape. Here’s what they do!1. They Are Early RisersOne of the common traits among individuals who maintain their weight is that they are early risers. These people typically wake up early, between 5:30 am and 6 am, while ensuring they get 7 to 8 hours of sleep. The key is not just waking up early but also going to bed early—usually by 10 PM. Following this routine aligns with the body's circadian rhythm, promoting optimal sleep quality. Getting enough sleep ensures that the body undergoes proper repair and cleansing, allowing them to feel refreshed and active throughout the day. Studies have shown that sleeping later than 11 PM can contribute to weight gain and increase the risk of heart disease.2. Eat Early Morning to Boost MetabolismA key habit of weight-conscious people is that they eat something early in the morning. Upon waking, many begin their day by drinking a glass of water followed by a handful of nuts like almonds and walnuts. Consuming these nutrient-rich foods helps kick-start the metabolism, enabling the body to burn calories more effectively throughout the day. Other options include fresh fruits or vegetable juices, which also promote a healthy metabolism.3. Having a Wholesome BreakfastPeople who maintain their weight never skip breakfast. They understand that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, as the metabolic rate is naturally highest in the morning. A well-balanced breakfast, usually high in protein and moderate in carbohydrates, provides the necessary energy for the rest of the day. Protein-rich foods like eggs, yogurt, or whole grains are often included in their breakfast to keep them full longer and avoid unhealthy snacking later.4. Never Skip ExerciseExercise is another essential habit of individuals who maintain their weight. These individuals make physical activity a non-negotiable part of their daily routine. Whether it's a brisk walk, a morning jog, cycling, or yoga, they engage in exercises that help strengthen their muscles and improve cardiovascular health. A combination of aerobic exercises (like running or cycling) and strength-building workouts is key to boosting metabolism and maintaining muscle mass. Additionally, yoga and meditation are incorporated to improve flexibility, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being.5. Keep Away DistractionsPeople who prioritize their health also maintain a disciplined morning routine, which they stick to consistently. Their mornings are not interrupted by distractions such as watching TV or checking social media. Instead, they focus on their set schedule: waking up, exercising, eating a nutritious breakfast, and preparing for the day. Avoiding distractions ensures they stay focused on their health goals and are more likely to stick to their fitness routine.
