Dawn reported that one person died in the explosion while 11 were injured. Among the injured was a foreigner, the report added. While Pakistan's Crime Investigation Department (CID) was quoted saying that it was not clear what caused the explosion Sunday night, local administration of Karachi has sparked speculation that it could have been caused by the explosion of a suspect improvised explosive device (IED).The Director General of CID Asif Ejaz Shaikh told Dawn.com "nothing was clear about the nature of the explosion." However, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar told a local media outlet that a suspected IED was behind the explosion. Earlier, Lanjar's office said that an oil tanker had exploded near the airport.
